Eventually Id get three straight boards and have them cut to size. And then Id bring them home and Id use my fathers drillpress. It was the only tool I had access to then, so I made everything with dowels. I could even make a couch that way. Pretty soon friends would come over and say, "Oh. Can you make one of those for me?" And then my husband, Todd, got me a saber - saw...as a Christmas present. He knew he had a good thing going —the house was being furnished practically for free. Where did you first learn how to use tools? My father was the one who taught me. He liked to build things, and was always doing projects around the house. He always wanted an assistant, and my brother and sister werent the least bit interested. But he could always suck me into helping on a project. And he loved to show me how to do something. Did you start making furniture to sell right out of school? No. After Todd and I got out of art school, we did various things to try and make a living while we were also painting.
